GALLÓ
Galló is my contribution to The Table Knife's second edition. A project that brings together the Barcelona-based cutlery company Florentine Kitchen Knives and 22 designers from around the world to create 44 table knives. All profits from knife sales will be donated to El Llindar, a foundation supporting young people that have found themselves outside the mainstream education system, by teaching them to become cooks and front-of-house professionals in the hospitality industry.
The knives were born from my relationship with the Valencian orange fields and my interest in using orange wood for manufacturing objects for everyday use. In the past, this wood was used for tool handles due to its proximity, hardness and strength, but problematic industrial mechanisation and globalisation have made it obsolete. Currently, it is only used as firewood due to its calorific value and long combustion. Most local people are unaware of the appearance and properties of this wood. This knife pays homage to this tree, immortalising its wood through a daily use object. These knives are made thanks to master forger German Azote.
